"The party you've only dreamed about."
Project X follows three seemingly anonymous high school seniors as they attempt to finally make a name for themselves. Their idea is innocent enough: let's throw a party that no one will forget... but nothing could prepare them for this party. Word spreads quickly as dreams are ruined, records are blemished and legends are born.
The story is simple: three unpopular teenage boys wanting to get laid and be recognizable and opportunity strikes when one of them will have his house empty as the parents leaving town, when the one bastard friend proposing to held a party to celebrate the house owner's seventeenth birthday party. The party which seems to be an epic fail turns out to be the greatest party ever held until it gets wrong. It's like the 'Hangover' director wants to produce yet another wild party, but this time for teens.
Costa : "Make sure you wear something tight!"
The story which is inspired by a party held by Australian party boy named Corey Delaney who in 2008 invited 500 people over to his house while his parents away indeed has no point. You won't find any character's development, engaging plot, meaningful story to be learned whatsoever. The point is just to present a wild party that turns massive and gets worse, that's all. With yet another found-footage formula, Project X is giving you a massive depressingly wild and super ridiculous teensploitation comedy. It's like, "I don't give a fuck about things are going, just enjoy the party dude!" It's surprisingly enjoyable; laughing for their ridiculousness, sometimes wincing over their dumbness, and the best is we can sense the feeling of getting participated in a party of the year.
Costa : [about the "Naked Girls Only" sign] "The next time your pool guy comes by for a clean, he's gonna say, 'Excuse me Mr. Kub, but I think I may have found some water in your semen.' "
Project X is undoubtly wild. Girls removing clothes for skinny dipping, underage security guards, a santa pinata filled with ecstasy, crazy DJ, endless drunk, body shot, dad's mercedes gets drown, a dude shows up with flame-thrower, it's all fun in a stupid, pointless and irritating way.
Costa : "Wow. I don't know how to fix this. I don't know how to fix any of this shit. I'm sorry Thomas. I just wanted to get some pussy."
The characters are wild and unbelievably spoiled. Thomas Mann who portrays the birthday boy, Thomas is my favorite. He's the 'normal' one, a sweet loving guy, but when he gest tipsy, man I believe him! And Costa who roled by Oliver Cooper, man this one is foul-mouthed selfish bastard. But he's the one who stands out, the most memorable character who manage to throw a massive and the most unforgettable party in teenagers' history. It's a whole fun to see them cursing and insulting each other, getting drunk, supporting each other to pick on a girl, irritatingly enjoyable.
Thomas : "Dude, people are stealing shit, breaking shit. I mean people are probably stealing shit."
Overall, if you like watching Hangover, Bridesmaids, and Superbad, you'll surely enjoy this over-the-top wild party teens who party like there's no tomorrow. It's a great laughter in the ass, but irritating at the same time. You get to decide.
